Core JKD is moving when you move—at the earliest moment of detecting the attack or preemptive attack, as when in life-threatening or multiple attacker situations.
We detect the impulse to motion and act on that detection. It is an in-the-moment flow response that can be trained to high levels.
What is trained:
- Using periphery and internal stillness (calm) to detect the impulse of motion
- Increasing the speed of your respond to the detection of the impulse to move form the attacker
Calmness allows us to more easily read the un-calm or break of calm or break of stillness. If your mind is racing to the next thought or intent, you will more easily miss the cues in the moment.
